Forbidden love... A union between a fairy and a wizard poses a threat to an ancient feud. But peace between fairies and wizards is possible. The child of a fairy and a wizard could reunite the factions of The Annunaki and end the unrest. However, the fairies don't want peace, putting Amelie and Niall's son in danger. Is love enough for Niall and Amelie to have a future, and will their son unite their people in peace?

Excerpt from A Magical's Gift

The heavy conversation hung in the air as thick as the humidity. Amelie understood the pain of losing a parent, but what could she say to comfort Niall? “I didn’t mean to intrude, Niall. Professional hazard? My subjects are usually less lively.”

He let out an unrestrained chuckle. “Amelie, you have a wonderful sense of humor.”

“I’ve been accused of many things, Niall. Having a sense of humor is not one of them.”

He smirked, communicating an entire conversation with the knowing look in his eyes.

She blushed under his direct perusal. “If you didn’t come with the high school tours, what brought you to the university today?”

He looked away as if trying to conceal his discomfort. When he turned to face her, he wore a hesitant look on his face, biting at his bottom lip in a way she just knew was out of character. “It’s foolish. I had a fight with my father. He wants me to join the family business. I don’t.”

Niall paused, but Amelie could see he wanted to confide in her, so she waited for him to continue.

“I parked at the edge of campus and wandered around for a bit. When I saw the large crowd outside the hall, I got curious.”

She muffled a giggle behind her hand. “I bet you were surprised you’d walked into an anthropology information session.”

“I won’t lie. It was the last thing I expected.”

It's Tuesday... which means Tirgearr Tuesday. As always, check out the hashtag #TirgearrTuesday on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to find your next read.

I haven't been posting my Tirgearr Tuesday posts to my blog since September, but you can check out my Instagram or Facebook groups (if you're not already following me) to see the latest.

The Magicals Series

My first series is complete with five books. You can also buy all five books in a gorgeous boxset!

I published Designed by Destiny, Book One in my latest series, last November. Has it really been that long? In this spin-off from The Magicals, you can tag along with my Fairy Godmothers and get up close and personal with their charges.

I think it's pretty great, but I may be a little biased. Thankfully, my reviewers agree!

Stay tuned for more #TirgearrTuesday posts and, seriously, check out some of the other Tirgearr titles!

“…This was a fun and refreshing read…” -- Christina Smith Belcher

“…So, much as Corgan made Marisa believe that true vampires do exist, Maya Tyler has managed to show this jaded romance skeptic that there is still such a thing as a sweet love story. Four well deserved stars…” – JennlyT

Q: What is your ideal Valentine's Day date?

A: A floor picnic on a rainy day.

***

Drew and the girls met Sera at Faye’s Cafe and ordered one picnic hamper to go.

“Welcome to our humble abode.” Drew opened the door for Sera. “Madison, grab a quilt from the linen closet.”

The girls made short work of their sandwiches, but Drew became suspicious when they turned down dessert—their favorite part of any meal—and disappeared into their bedroom.

He shared a conspiratory look with Sera. “I think we have two matchmakers at work.”

“You mean you didn’t put them up to it?”

“No.” His face turned bright red. “Uh—”

“You look adorable when you blush.” She stroked the side of his face. “Today’s been a lot of fun.

“But?”

Sera frowned. “But I gotta go.”

“Right now?” Drew leaned toward her, capturing her lips in a gentle kiss. When he pulled away, Sera had a slightly dazed look on her face.

“Maybe I can stay a little longer.” She licked her lips as she swayed toward him.

“Yeah?” With a knowing smile, Drew caressed the side of her face. “I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times. And, I swear, it’s not a line. You’re beautiful.”

Sera gazed back at him, the same wonder he felt mirrored in her eyes. “People throw around words, like, all the time, and they’re completely meaningless. You tell me I’m beautiful, and I can believe it’s true.”

“I’ve never met anyone like you.”

Sera arched an eyebrow. “You mean, famous?”

“No.” Drew shook his head slightly. “Without pretense. High school is just a bunch of posturing kids, pretending to be someone else.” He shrugged. “Even me. And, you— You could be the biggest fake of them all, and you’re not. You’re real.”

“Stop, Drew. You’ll make me blush.”

“Yeah?” He leaned in, grazing the edge of her ear with his teeth. “I can make you blush.”

She shivered in response to his insinuation, shying out of his reach. “I’m sure you can.”

An Excerpt from A Vampire's Tale for #TirgearrTuesday

“How about you?”

“Not much to say about me.” She shrugged in the dark then realized Corgan was watching the road, not her. “I'm twenty-three. I studied business in college before I dropped out. My parents didn’t support my decision. They thought they could change my mind. When I stuck to my guns, they, well, they disowned me. I worked for a newspaper, but I hated it there, so I quit my job and started writing novels.”

“Your parents hurt you.”

Marisa stared out the window. “Yes.”

“Despite what they said, they are still proud of you.”

“I don’t think so, Corgan.”

Trust me. “Leaving your job was out of character for you.”

“Definitely. My friends didn't understand. They thought I’d completely lost it. In their minds, I left a decent paying job to chase a pipe dream.”

“You needed to find your own way.”

“You get it.” Marisa bit her lip, thoughtfully. Corgan understood her. She didn’t know how, but it seemed like he’d known her longer than a few days.

“Sometimes your own way isn't the easy way.”

“Damn straight! The term 'starving artist' comes to mind.”

“Do you go without, love?” The alarm was evident in his voice.

Origin Stories

Every story has a beginning. My stories aren't told in a linear fashion. Far from it. My characters come with complex histories that we may not fully understand until the end of the series. Whenever the end comes. For now, I'm writing their stories. Marisa and Corgan. Dee and Kurtis. Alina and Rylan.

In doing so, I created a world. A magical world. The world I imagined for The Magicals Series consists of created and born magicals—vampires, wizards, and fairies. Vampires are created by other vampires, not born, and considered an abomination by some (Helene and her line of fairies developed a “vampire cure” mentioned in A Wizard’s Choice). Wizards and fairies descend from the fallen angels called The Anunnaki.

I'm not the first author to incorporate vampires, wizards, and fairies. Where and when did these creatures first appear in folklore or literature?

Check in next week for my next post in the Origin Stories series.

Talking about New Year's Resolutions for #TirgearrTuesday

It's the "setting New Year's resolutions" time of year. Every year, I have good intentions to do the standard: lose weight; save money; get organized... This year is no different. But, this year, I view these resolutions as a reminder to constantly strive to be the best person I can be... if I need that reminder. Which I do. And it has less to do with short-term achievement—which is still a bonus—and more to do with reinforcing a lasting healthy habit. Health encompasses three parts—physical, mental, and financial—and achieving good health in all three categories takes work.

I've faced severe health issues for the last seven years. Mental health issues that present with awful physical symptoms. The inability to work and the pursuit of my human rights case which contribute to financial stress. It's a triple whammy, and unfortunately, something I can only hope to manage, not control. The last seven years, especially the five years I have been at home, have taught me a lot. I've increased my capacity to cope with the triple whammy. I've learned how to self-care. And I'm better equipped to face future uncertainty.

The future is always a bit uncertain. The control we have over our lives is not absolute, very susceptible to outside forces—like COVID—and we need the ability to roll with the punches and regroup when the occasion arises. I won't say I'm an expert—because I'm far from it—but I'm getting a little better at reacting each time the rug gets pulled out from under my feet.

Life is unpredictable and offers no guarantees. Probably why all my stories end happily-ever-after. In an uncertain world, I offer you hope. Besides, true love's kiss, hope is perhaps the most powerful thing in the world. Here's hoping for a better 2021.

Happy New Year!
